Brenda at the original Julia Childs kitchen The Smithsonian, Washington, D.C.
With a grateful heart I welcome you to cakepuff. Cakepuff was born in a teeny tiny apartment kitchen in beautiful Riverside, Illinois. The kitchen was tiny and quaint and it inspired me to bake for my boys and practice all the skills and techniques learned at the Le Cordon Bleu School in Chicago. With hooks and nails I hung all my tools on the wall, and the 100 sq. ft. kitchen soon became the perfect place for rolling out, cutting and creating the flakiest pate feuilletee. I baked French classics like pithivier, palmiers, napoleons and sacristains but my puff pastry mini cakes filled sweet or savory were by far our favorite. Then one lazy afternoon, while eating my pastries and watching the Powerpuff Girls, my boys said, "Mom, you should sell these!" and I said, "well what should we call these little puff pastry cakes?" and voila! It was in that moment that the cakepuff was born!
Cakepuff are enjoyed by foodies and tourists who visit farmers markets and festivals in and around the Chicagoland area. Visit our event page for our next appearance.
